Is now available at Ecomedica analysis laboratory the prenatalSafe test, a new fetal DNA testing from maternal blood sample.
This test , developed by an Italian laboratory , promises , with almost complete certainty and with a simple test of the mother blood , to identify, through the direct analysis of fetal DNA in maternal blood , Down syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities such as Edwards syndrome (trisomy 18 , 1 case out of 6000 births) and Patau syndrome ( trisomy 13 , 1 case on 10 thousand ), Turner's syndrome ( monosomy X) , Klinefelter 's syndrome and the syndrome of Jacobs.
The test also gives the opportunity to investigate other chromosomal abnormalities such the traditional chromosomes 5 , verifying the presence of structural chromosomal alterations and sub- microscopic , such as DiGeorge syndrome , Cri -du -chat or Prader-Willi/Angelman .
The advantages ? No risk to the fetus , reliability higher than 99% and , especially , the practicality of samples that should no longer travel to foreign laboratories to be analyzed . Unlike other tests available for some time , in fact, with PrenatalSafe samples are no longer sent to laboratories Americans or Chinese, but directly analyzed and reported in Italy. An advantage not to be underestimated , which allows to significantly reduce the time of response , not exceeding seven working days , and the risk that the samples deteriorate , subjected to long trips.
PrenatalSafe is executable in both single and twins pregnancies , although obtained with assisted reproductive technology . The test is indicated when maternal age is advanced (over 35 years), in the case of first-trimester screening (Bi- Test) positive ultrasound picture of fetal abnormalities suggestive of aneuploidy , for all pregnancies in which it is contraindicated invasive prenatal diagnosis or when there is a history of personal / family of chromosomal abnormalities , as suggested by the guidelines recently issued by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist and the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine .
In brief, the test PrenatalSafe is:
It 'requires a simple blood sample of the mother , from which analyzes fetal DNA circulating.
It ' a non-invasive test , are then reset the risks of abortion present in the traditional techniques of invasive prenatal diagnosis such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling .
Has an accuracy of more than 99 % to detect trisomy 21 , trisomy 18 and trisomy 13 , and 95% to detect the monosomy X , with the percentage of false positives <0.1 % .
PERFORMED IN ITALY
PrenatalSAFE ® is the ONLY non-invasive prenatal test that is performed entirely in ITALY , in the laboratories of the Group GENOME . Unlike other centers in Italy that offer similar test , the samples are NOT sent in service laboratories located in the U.S. or China
CLEAR AND DEFINED RESULTS
PrenatalSAFE ® is the ONLY non-invasive prenatal test that provides results in terms of POSITIVE or NEGATIVE , ie, presence / absence of aneuploidy , chromosomal , and not in terms of percentage of risk (high / low risk ) , as similar tests proposed by other centers.
